Good Burger 2 Movie Review

The long-awaited sequel to Good Burger is here and the ’90s favorites are back in action. Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell star in the new film from Paramount, which premieres next month. The plot isn’t exactly Black Mirror-esque, but when Dexter Reed (Thompson) returns to Good Burger after a failed invention, he has an idea that threatens the restaurant. The cast also includes Kamaia Fairburn, Alex R. Hibbert, Josh Server and Lori Beth Denberg.

Synopsis

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are back as Dexter and Ed, reunited at their beloved burger franchise and up to their old shenanigans. The sequel is penned by original movie writers Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, with director Phil Traill (The Middle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) overseeing production for Nickelodeon Studios.

The film picks up where the first left off with the gang at Good Burger being threatened by corporate takeover, this time through the mega-corporation MegaCorp. Brittany Runs a Marathon star Jillian Bell plays Katt Boswell, the head of MegaCorp, while Lil Rel Howery (Get Out) appears as Cecil McNevin, a lawyer for the company. Also joining is Moonlight actor Alex R. Hibbert as Ed’s son, who is fittingly named Ed2.

Other familiar faces from All That make a return in this new flick, including Josh Server as Fizz and Lori Beth Denberg as Connie Muldoon. Additional celebrity cameos are in store for the sequel, with Nicole Byer, Al Roker, Young Gravy, Marsai Martin, Rob Gronkowski, Kai Cenat, and more expected to drop in.

Cast

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are reprising their roles as Dexter and Ed in Good Burger 2, a sequel to the 1997 Nickelodeon film. The movie was announced in March 2023 and will premiere on Paramount on November 22. It’s been a long time since the first Good Burger, but it looks like the best friends are still up to their old antics.

The original film’s writers, Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, are writing the new movie, which is being directed by Phil Traill (The Middle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine). The sequel will also feature cameos from Nicole Byer, Al Roker, Carmen Electra, Flula Borg, Marsai Martin, Young Gravy, Rob Gronkowski, Kai Cenat, and more.

As expected, the trailer features plenty of slapstick humor as the pair get up to their usual antics. It also reveals that Mega Corp is planning to open Mega Good Burgers in cities around the world, staffed entirely by robots. It’s up to the best friends to stop them.

Release Date

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell will be back as Dexter and Ed in Good Burger 2. The movie is set to debut Nov. 22 on Paramount. The original primewire film starred Josh Server as Fizz, Lori Beth Denberg as Connie Muldoon and Carmen Electra as Roxanne.

The sequel will also feature a few new faces. Brittany Runs a Marathon star Jillian Bell will play Katt Boswell, the CEO of Mega Corp, which has replaced Mondo Burger as Good Burger’s arch-enemy. The sequel is based on a popular sketch on the ’90s Nickelodeon series All That. It follows the zany antics of cashier Ed and his best friend, Dexter, as they attempt to keep their jobs at fast-food restaurant Good Burger. Director Phil Traill has directed episodes of a variety of TV shows, including Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Modern Family and Fresh Off the Boat.

Trailer

Twenty-six years after the original film, inventor Dexter Reed (Kenan Thompson) asks his friend Ed (Kel Mitchell) to put in a good word for him at their old workplace. Ed obliges and the pair start up again at Good Burger, though it’s not exactly the same restaurant they worked in all those years ago.

Apparently, this time it’s owned by Mega Corp which is planning to franchise the business, a move that threatens their jobs and probably a lot of other people’s jobs as well. The new Good Burger sequel also stars Jillian Bell as Katt Boswell, CEO of Mega Corp and Lil Rel Howery as the company’s lawyer.

The movie is written by the original film’s writers Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert alongside All That alum James III and directed by Phil Traill who has mostly been directing episodes of TV shows like American Auto and Single Drunk Female. The cast also includes Josh Server, Lori Beth Denberg, Alex R. Hibbert, Fabrizio Guido, and Anabel Graetz.
