How to Draw A Basketball
Step 1
The first step of this tutorial on how to draw a basketball will be easy at first. In this step, we will draw a perfect circle representing your basketball’s outline.
Drawing a perfect circle freehand can be tricky, so there are a few tools that can help.
The best tool for drawing a circle is a pair of compasses. With this tool, you can easily draw a circle. So if you have one, it would be great for this step!
If you don’t have one, you can use a circular object like the glue stick cap and then circle it to make a circle.
Step 2
Now that you have the outline of your basketball, you can start drawing some lines of the ball. We’ll add a curved line for this step of your basketball drawing.
This front line runs in a slightly curved line from the top to the bottom of the basketball.
If you have a pair of compasses, you can use them to draw that curved line along the sphere.
Step 3
We’re slowly working on the details of your basketball design, so we’ll add more as we go.
In this step, we will add a very horizontally curved line to the basketball as it appears in the reference image.
Correcting these lines can be difficult. So you can draw the lines with a pencil and then go over them with a pen when it suits you.
Step 4
In step 4 of this tutorial on how to draw a basketball, we will draw more details. For this step, carefully draw another horizontal line across the basketball.
This line should be only slightly curved at the horizontal angle. We can move on to the next step when this line is done!
Step 5
You’re almost done with your basketball drawing and are only a row away from completing it! This last line is a mirror image of the top line you drew in Step 3.
As you can see in the reference image, it looks exactly like this line, except it’s reversed.
Once you’ve drawn that line, you’re done with the drawing! If you want to add extra detail, you can do that too to make it stand out.
An example of what you could do would be to draw your favorite basketball brand’s logo on your basketball!
Step 6
After drawing the last few details, you have successfully learned how to draw a basketball! Now that you’ve drawn it, all you have to do is take one more step, and it’s fun!
Your basketball design needs some color, and there are a few ways to make it your own.
Basketballs are traditionally bright orange, so that should make a pretty picture! You could even get creative and use some of your favorite colors.
Once you’ve picked a few colors, you can have fun with the media and artistic tools you can use.
You can play with paints, watercolors, or crayons to add amazing color variations to your drawing.
